Fewer mistakes vital in Formula E title bid, says Sebastien Buemi

Sebastien Buemi says he and his Renault e.dams team must cut out its season-one mistakes in order to win the 2015/16 Formula E title

Buemi was beaten to the inaugural all-electric series crown by Nelson Piquet Jr by just one point.

He highlighted his own error in Argentina, where he struck a wall while leading, and the lengthy pitstop and subsequent unsafe release in Russia as the two chief examples it must learn from, ahead of the coming campaign.

Things we've learned from FE testing

"We made some mistakes, as a driver and as a team," he told AUTOSPORT.

"In Moscow we waited another 10 seconds in the pits [finishing third on the road but being demoted to ninth post-race following a penalty]. That was a race I could have fought for the win.

"In Buenos Aires I hit the wall when I was in the lead. If we'd have taken those points we would have won the championship.

"It was very hard to lose it this way, especially by one point.

"We will try to look at not making mistakes, get the basics right and make sure we don't make any mistakes.

"They were not silly but ones we could have avoided. Maybe we push a little less hard."

Formula E's new era explained

Despite the nature of his title defeat, Buemi said he had no reservations over sticking with e.dams for the second Formula E season.

"Clearly we have a great team, DAMS have won so many times in GP2 and WSR, they are really good at extracting the most out of a car that is similar to the rest of the field," he added.

"The most important for me is we have the speed and I'm sure this will translate into good results."
