Oliver Rowland keen to stay in Formula Renault 3.5 for 2015

Formula Renault 3.5 race winner Oliver Rowland is interested in staying in the series for a title push in 2015

AUTOSPORT understands that the Briton, who finished fourth in the championship this year as a rookie, taking two wins, has received interest from teams in both GP2 and FR3.5 for next year.

And while his main 2014 rivals - Carlos Sainz Jr, Pierre Gasly and Roberto Merhi - are unlikely to return for another season, Rowland told AUTOSPORT he believes he could gain a lot from a title charge.

"I think this [another season of FR3.5] would be the best thing for me," said Rowland, who will take part in the final day of post-season testing at Aragon with Fortec on Wednesday.

"I think I need a year of winning and fighting for the championship after a year of learning."

The 22-year-old added, however, that he is only interested in staying in FR3.5 if the field is strong next year.

"I want to come back, but I want to come back to a competitive championship," he said.

"I want good drivers to race against - I'm not interested in coming back if the depth is not there.

"I think it will be good next year. You always wonder who is going to go where at this time of year, and there are always a few surprises."

While Rowland's future is effectively in the hands of his backer the Racing Steps Foundation, he believes that his opinion will be taken into consideration, and the idea of staying with Fortec rather than switching to another top team appeals to him.

"My backers are interested in what I think," he said. "There are some quite good offers, and I really don't know what they will choose.

"I'm happy with our potential [at Fortec]. Throughout the year most times we've been as fast or faster than anybody.

"Reliability has let us down a little bit, and I let us down at the start of the year, but I feel I've learned a lot.

"I thought I knew everything at the start of the year, but now I realise that I'm doing a much better job, and I'm happy with that."
