Alexander Sims joins Triple Eight for Nurburgring Blancpain round

Alexander Sims has been drafted into the Triple Eight Z4 line-up ahead of the team's second start in a round of the Blancpain Endurance Series at the Nurburgring this weekend

BMW factory driver Sims, who helped Marco Attard seal the British GT Championship with the rival Ecurie Ecosse BMW team at Donington Park last weekend, has been brought in to drive the solo Triple Eight Z4 entered in the Pro class for the Nurburgring 1000Km BES finale.

The 26-year-old Briton will share the car with Warren Hughes and Jody Firth, who moved to the team for the final two rounds of the British series.

Team boss Ian Harrison, whose squad made is first international GT start at the Silverstone BES round in May, said: "The opportunity to stick Alex in the car was one that was too good to miss for this race.

"Alex has recent experience of current BMW machinery and will no doubt be a massive influence in helping us get to grips with the car, track and tyres."

Sims said he was excited to be making his second BES appearance of the year after his starring role with Ecosse in the Spa 24 Hours because "it's got to be one of the most competitive GT3 series in the world".

Hughes revealed that he was looking forward to racing the BMW without the 75kg of penalty weight that he and Firth are forced to run in Britain.

"It'll be refreshing to run without the 75 kilos we have in British GT," he said.

Hughes and Firth are also scheduled to race a Triple Eight BMW at the Gulf 12 Hours at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi in December.
