FIA GT: All-Lister front row in Brno

For the penultimate race of the 2000 season, the FIA GT championship is visiting the Czech Republic for the first time, with a 500 km race to be held on Sunday.

Although penalised by the penalty weight currently carried by the Lister Storm, Julian Bailey claimed provisional pole position in the morning session, with a time of 2m00.157s.

He was confident that no-one would improve on his time, and so sat out the second session, along with the second Lister car, with Favre setting a time just a tenth of a second slower than Bailey. "It was a good lap and I think that a 1m59s lap is possible around here, but we are carrying 80 kilos!" Bailey said. With very few improvements in the afternoon, the Listers will start from the front row for Sunday's race.

The Storms will be followed by a quartet of Chrysler Vipers, headed by Vosse and Derichebourg for Paul Belmondo Racing. The team spent the afternoon session preparing for the race, and Derichebourg is confident that they can run with the Listers on Sunday. "We will have a fantastic car for tomorrow," he said. "It will be hard on the brakes, though. You do not brake hard like at the A1-Ring in Austria, but you are always on the brakes here."

The Carsport Holland car was fastest in the afternoon session, but their best time overall put them fourth on the grid. "I lost time this morning and then I got caught on the oil of the Ferrari on my fastest lap," said the Dutchman, referring to the Ferrari Maranello which had an engine blow in the morning. "We could not get into the top two in qualifying anyway, the Listers are too far away."

They start ahead of the Racing Box Viper and the second Paul Belmondo car. The Ferrari, despite losing two water pumps, will line up 10th for Sunday's race. Lausitzring winners Kaufmann and Haupt were eighth, surprisingly behind Freisinger's second Porsche 911 GT2, driven by Ernst Palmberger and Frenchman Cyril Chateau, Kaufmann's partner in the French GT Championship.

In the N-GT class, where Bouchut and Goueslard claimed the Drivers title at the previous round, Luca Riccitelli took pole for the RWS Red Bull Racing Porsche 996 GT3-R. His best time was 2m05.051s, three tenths faster than Bouchut in the Larbre Competition Porsche.

Magnus Wallinder was third for the Pennzoil Quaker State G-Force car. Bob Wollek, driving alongside Hans-Jörg Höfer in the second RWS Porsche, was sixth fastest, finding it impossible to believe that he could be three seconds slower than Riccitelli.
