Giancarlo Fisichella switches into 2014 USC with Ferrari

Three-time Formula 1 grand prix winner Giancarlo Fisichella will race for the Risi Competizione team in the full United SportsCar Championship this year

The Ferrari-contracted driver will share the works-supported team's solo GT Le Mans class 458 Italia with Matteo Malucelli, who contested last year's American Le Mans Series in the Risi entry.

They will be joined at the season-opening Daytona 24 Hours on January 25/26 by Olivier Beretta, who partnered Malucelli last year, and Gianmaria Bruni, who took the GT title in last year's World Endurance Championship for Ferrari.

The announcement that Fisichella has been placed by Ferrari at the US team is effective confirmation that he will not be part of the factory AF Corse team's line-up for the WEC in 2014.

The Italian driver's switch to the US follows a reshuffle of the AF Corse line-up ahead of the WEC finale in Bahrain last November.

Fisichella was demoted to the second car after a poor performance in the previous round in China and Toni Vilander moved up to share with Gianmaria Bruni, who went on to seal the World Endurance Cup for GT drivers.

No comment on the USC reshuffle was available from Ferrari or AF.

The line-up for the WEC, of which Fisichella was a part in 2012-13, has yet to be announced, but speculation suggests that Vilander will contest the full season alongside Bruni.

Davide Rigon, who is part of Ferrari's unofficial roster of GT drivers, is tipped to be one of the drivers in the second car.

Risi, which returned to the race tracks last year after a year's sabbatical, is also providing technical support for the Krohn Racing team, which is now based at its Houston workshops.

Ferrari factory driver Andrea Bertolini and Peter Dumbreck will join team boss Tracy Krohn and Niclas Jonsson in the car for Daytona.
