Da Matta stays with PPI for 2001
Cristiano da Matta will race for PPI Motorsports in 2001, ending speculation that he may replace champion Juan Montoya at Ganassi
PPI team owner Cal Wells exercised his option on the young Brazilian, renewing his contract for another year.
"As a driver, the last thing you want to worry about is what you are doing next year, especially when things are going so well right now," said da Matta. "We've had some great races lately, but it's more than that. The team, the car, the technical side, everything has come together and the chemistry is really good."
Wells added: "Cristiano is undoubtedly one of the most talented drivers in the CART paddock. He has helped us make this our most competitive season yet, and we're looking forward to delivering a consistent, winning programme with him this season and next."
Rumours had been growing that da Matta was high on Chip Ganassi's shopping list as a replacement for Montoya who is heading to F1 with Williams.
