Yvan Muller to make European NASCAR debut at Tours oval next month
World Touring Car champion Yvan Muller will make a one-off appearance in the Euro Racecar NASCAR Touring Series at the Tours oval in France on July 7-8
The 42-year-old Frenchman, who currently leads this year's WTCC standings in his Chevrolet, will drive one of the manufacturer's Camaro-badged models in a sprint race and a two-driver enduro at the new track.
The car, which he will share with amateur Stephane Sabates in the enduro, will be fielded by his former karting rival Eric Helary's Still Racing outfit.
"After 33 years of racing, I'm still learning new things so I'm very happy to be part of this experience," said Muller. "I join the series as a rookie and will have everything to learn about oval racing. I don't know a great deal about it so I'm free to embark on the adventure without pressure."
"It gives me particular pleasure to work with Eric Helary, because we raced each other 30 years ago in karts. It's funny to see that we're both still involved in motorsport, especially with him now becoming a team manager - my team manager, no less! So I'm definitely going to appreciate the human side of this experience."
Muller, who will not be registered for championship points, is also taking part in the Le Mans Classic on the same weekend.
