WTCC Argentina: Jose Maria Lopez wins main race on home soil

Despite losing the lead to Norbert Michelisz at the start, reigning champion and home hero Lopez took the chequered flag comfortably clear after regaining the position in the latter half of the race.

Lopez was part of a hotly contested battle for second with Citroen team-mate Muller for much of the race as the pair chased down Michelisz, before the world champion was able to benefit from Michelisz and Muller both running wide and removing themselves from the fight for victory.

Tom Coronel took second place, ahead of Rob Huff in third, with the pair both surviving post-race investigations for possible jump-starts.

Huff's Honda team-mate Tiago Monteiro took fourth, with Muller eventually finishing in fifth - less than half a second down.

Debutant Esteban Guerrieri took sixth place in his Campos Racing Chevrolet Cruze, overcoming a gearbox problem that had caused him to retire from the opening race.

Medhi Bennani took seventh place ahead of Michelisz who came home in a lowly eighth.

Winner of the opening race Tom Chilton and John Filippi were ninth and 10th respectively.
