Spa 2: Priaulx makes amends

Andy Priaulx made up for his disastrous start in the first European Touring Car Championship race at Spa-Francorchamps by dominating the second in his BMW GB 320i

The Guernseyman, clearly the fastest man around the 4.330-mile majestic Spa circuit all weekend, started from the third row but was in second place by the end of the first lap. He then made short work of early leader Duncan Huisman's privateer BMW, before clearing off into the distance.

Works Alfa driver Nicola Larini finished second after emulating the performance of his team-mate Gabriele Tarquini in the first race by staging a stubborn defence of his position ahead of the two BMW Deutschland teamsters Dirk Müller and Jörg Muller.

These three, embroiled in their own battle, finished well clear of Roberto Colciago in the second works Alfa and Huisman who eventually finished sixth.

Tarquini, having driven so well in the first race to build on his championship lead with that great defensive victory, saw his points advantage all but disappear when he suffered a puncture on the last lap while running fifth, and failed to score.

Tarquini still leads the points with 64, but is now only two ahead of Jörg Muller, with Dirk Müller on 58 and Larini and Priaulx both on 57 in what is shaping into a fantastic five-way struggle with eight races still to go.
