Rankings: Yvan Muller climbs into top 60 after Donington WTCC double

In what was the WTCC's first visit to the circuit following a five-year spell at Brands Hatch, Muller claimed pole position and both race victories to move closer to championship leader Rob Huff, with whom he clashed in the second race.

As a result the Frenchman jumped five places to 56th in the Rankings, equalling his best position. Huff limited the damage by claiming a brace of second places on home soil, which helped him improve one spot to an all-time high of 45th.

As Muller claimed a famous double in the UK, Kyle Busch was also creating history across the Atlantic as he claimed his 100th NASCAR win with victory at the New Hampshire Nationwide series race.

After the elation came disappointment however as a tyre issue sent him into the wall and out of contention in the Sprint Cup race, with Busch eventually classified 36th.

That sent him tumbling from first to fifth in the Sprint Cup standings and also caused him to lose ground on Jimmie Johnson and a potential top 10 berth in the Rankings - although he remains 11th.

Ryan Newman was the biggest gainer from the Sprint Cup, as he led a Stewart-Haas one-two at New Hampshire to claim his first victory of the year and jump three places to 28th in the Rankings.

Beyond the WTCC and NASCAR there were significant changes in the Rankings, as Auto GP, the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, Superleague Formula and the GT1 World Championship all produced big changes.

Lucas Luhr (105) and Michael Krumm (198) improved 29 and 19 places in total as a result of their double FIA GT1 win at Paul Ricard, which also helped them back into the overall points lead.

Juho Hanninen meanwhile put himself firmly in the shop window for next year with a commanding victory on Rally Azores, moving up four places to 34th in the Rankings in the process.

Frederic Vervisch was the big gainer in Superleague, the Belgian taking a home victory in the Superfinal to claim €100,000 and move up 122 places to 350th in the Rankings.

That was trumped by Adam Carroll (622) however, as the man who brought Ireland the A1GP title took pole position and a podium on his Auto GP debut to shoot up a remarkable 289 places.

Race winner Jon Lancaster was one of three other drivers to make triple-figure improvements, the Briton's race one victory at Donington Park helping him climb 119 places to 339th.
