Race 1: Priaulx dominates

Andy Priaulx dominated the first of two European Touring Car Championship races at Oschersleben today (Sunday), putting himself back in the hunt for the drivers' title as BMW clinched the manufacturers' championship with three of the German cars finshing in the top four places

Priaulx drove an inch perfect race, having taken the lead at the start from the outside of the front row ahead of poleman Augusto Farfus Jr, and was never challenged.

Series leader Dirk Muller inherited third place after Alfa Romeo's leading player in the points chase, Gabriele Tarquini, suffered transmission failure. His retirement means that there is now no possibility of him retaining his ETCC crown, and no chance of an Alfa driver winning the title.

Dirk Muller's BMW Team Deutschland stablemate Jorg Muller was awarded fourth place after Fabrizio Giovanardi, who finished between the BMWs on the track, was penalised 30s for after hitting Dirk on lap 12.

British Touring Car Championship leader James Thompson, guest driving for Alfa Romeo, finished fifth after a clash with Franck Diefenbacher. The SEAT driver was forced to retire with broken suspension. His team-mate's Jordi Gene and Rickard Rydell finished sixth and seventh, with Tom Coronel taking a double-whammy in eighth, sealing both the Independent's title and the pole for race two.
