Proteam adds Felice Tedeschi for Sonoma World Touring Car races

Felice Tedeschi will make his World Touring Car Championship debut with the Proteam BMW squad at Sonoma this weekend

Proteam adds Felice Tedeschi for Sonoma World Touring Car races

The 50-year-old Italian will partner Mehdi Bennani as the team runs two BMW 320 TCs for the first time since Isaac Tutumlu quit the series after April's Marrakech round.

After making it to Formula 3000 in 1991, Tedeschi quit single-seaters and spent a number of years in the Italian Touring Car Championship later in the decade.

His last significant tin-top experience came in Superstars last year, when he raced a Mercedes C63 AMG at Mugello.

The BMWs, as used by Proteam, will run 30kg lighter at Sonoma than at the previous round at Curitiba under the WTCC's compensation weight rules.

The 320 TCs will weigh 1140kg in the USA - 60kg less than the dominant Chevrolet Cruzes. Only the Ford Focuses - as run by Arena Motorsport - will weigh less at 1130kg.
