Jorg Muller Fastest but Not on Pole

Jorg Muller did all he could by qualifying on pole position for the first World Touring Car race at Oschersleben tomorrow, but he will have to start eleventh because of a penalty from the last round at Spa

The German driver was docked ten grid places after a final lap accident with August Farfus Jr. The latter was excluded for his part in the incident, but his appeal will be heard after Oschersleben.

Jorg Muller, carrying 45kg less ballast than his teammate following a bad round at Spa, was more than a tenth quicker than reigning British Touring Car Champion James Thompson who inherits the pole position.

Thompson's Alfa Romeo teammate Augusto Farfus Jr qualified third, ahead of Andy Priaulx's BMW who put in a strong performance despite carrying the maximum ballast.

Championship leader Dirk Muller qualified eighth, also carrying the maximum ballast, ahead of Jordi Gene, who managed a top ten qualifying position with the new SEAT Leon.
