Honda WTCC investigation means race results will be provisional

The results from Sunday's World Touring Car Championship races at the Hungaroring will remain provisional until the completion of an investigation relating to the Honda cars

A technical investigation was launched by the stewards into the legality of the flat floor on the Honda Civic WTCC on Saturday during scrutineering.

But with stewards declaring 'further investigation is needed to assess the compliance of these parts', Sunday's races will go ahead before further analysis of the floors - which have been sealed - will determine whether or not any action will be taken.

All four Honda Civics, including Ferenc Ficza's Zengo Motorsport car, are involved in the investigation, which relates to three unspecified pieces on the underside of the cars.

The investigation did not hold up the publication of qualifying results, but its ongoing status does mean that those sessions also remain provisional - although the grids for both races will be based on those times, with unrelated penalties for Gregoire Demoustier and Thed Bjork sending them to the back of the grid.

Autosport understands that there will be no further communication form stewards on the matter until the investigation is completed, for which there is no timeframe.

In addition, it has also been confirmed that two formation laps will take place before the start of Sunday's opening race.

With inclement weather conditions taking hold at the Hungaroring - which had not been experienced at any point before Sunday - the decision was taken to allow drivers to acclimatise to a wet track on a newly-laid surface, negating the need for the race start to take place under safety car conditions.
