ETCC S’Touring race 2: Colciago on top
Audi's Roberto Colciago took his second win in the Super Touring element of the FIA European Touring Car Championship at the Hungaroring on Sunday
Starting from the penultimate row of the grid, the Italian used the full potential of his four-wheel drive A4 quattro at the start to leap up to third on the opening lap. He zipped past Enrico Toccacelo's Conrero-run Alfa Romeo 156 at Turn Two on the second tour and then set about catching pole man Nicola Larini's Nordauto-run 156.
Larini, whose car blew a tyre in the opening race today, just couldn't defend the 2sec lead he held on lap three, and Colciago caught the Alfa on lap seven and zipped past on the exit of a chicane, once more using his car's traction advantage. He then pulled away to take victory by almost 3secs ahead of Larini.
"The car was perfect," he said. "Overtaking Nicola was not, I would say, easy but it was quite easy."
As in the first race, Fabrizio Giovanardi (Nordauto Alfa) had Gabriele Tarquini's JAS Honda for company throughout the 13 lap race. Despite his best efforts, Tarquini just couldn't find a way past and had to settle for fourth, while Giovanardi was also delighted to come away from Hungary with a 16 point lead over Larini.
Fabrice Walfisch took fifth in the second Honda, ahead of Sandro Sardelli's PRO Motorsport-run Nissan Primera. Matt Neal's Nissan failed to start due to the problems which forced him out of race one.
