Biela to make touring car return
Team Abt Sportsline has entered two Audi touring cars in the Nurburgring 24 Hour race on May 31/June 1, and has recruited three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Frank Biela for the task
Former BTCC champion Biela is scheduled to make his first touring car start in four years when he contests this weekend's BFGoodrich LangstreckenMeisterschaft round at the Nordschleife in a modified Audi TT-R DTM car as preparation. In the Nurburgring 24 Hours he will share a car with Abt DTM drivers Christian Abt and Mattias Ekstrom, while the second will be driven by Kris Nissen and another DTM duo, Martin Tomczyk and Karl Wendlinger.
"It is something very special for me to be able to compete in this race with an Audi," said Biela. "Obviously I'll have to reacquaint myself with a touring car after so many sports car races. However, I'm convinced that I'll get used to having a roof over my head again very quickly."
The Monaco-domiciled German will compete in two 24-hour races within the space of a fortnight, as he will be chasing his fourth successive victory in an Audi R8 entered by Audi Sport UK at Le Mans on June 14/15.
