Argentina loses planned WTCC date
Argentina will not join the World Touring Car schedule in 2011, despite being on the provisional calendar submitted to the FIA earlier this year
The final 2011 calendar was announced by today's meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council, with Brazil once again hosting the season opener. But instead of a round at Buenos Aires two weeks later as originally planned, the second event is planned for Zolder a month later.
The original proposal to hold an event in Argentina was conceived alongside a planned 2011 entry from Honda's Argentinean arm, which the team set to run the cars admitted was unlikely earlier in the season.
Britain's round of the championship will move from Brands Hatch to Donington Park, and Suzuka takes over the hosting of the Japanese event from Okayama.
The Chinese race, which was planned for Guangdong on the draft calendar, is still listed as venue to be confirmed, while the Porto street circuit will once again need to be homologated.
Regulations for the race two grid will also change next year, with the order to be decided by reversing the top 10 in the first segment of qualifying, rather than the top eight finishers in race one. The switch will remove the temptation for drivers to drop back in race one order to secure a pole position start for the following race.
