Alfa Romeo Fastest at Monza Test

The young Brazilian set a lap of 1:58.783, and was the only driver to go under the 1 min 59 second mark. Teammate Gabriele Tarquini was just behind him, while BMW's Dirk Mueller was the best of the rest.

Alfa Romeo and BMW ruled the test, which doubled as the media launch for the series, with Roberto Colciago (Honda Civic) and Jordi Gene (SEAT Toledo) the only other cars in the top ten.

Ford and Chevrolet were notably off the pace, while SEAT's performance slumped from that seen in recent tests held at Magny-Cours and Silverstone. 33 drivers took part in the test, utilising 29 different cars.

A number of WTCC cars will be shown at a fan day in Piazza del Duomo, Milan on April 7, just ahead of the season opening race in Monza.
