Rob Huff says he did all he could in Macau to win WTCC crown
Rob Huff believes he did all he could to prevent Yvan Muller winning the World Touring Car Championship, despite coming up short against his Chevrolet team-mate at the Macau season finale
Huff, 31, won both races at the demanding Asian street circuit, but finished the season just three points behind Muller, who won his third WTCC title in four years.
The British driver, who led the points race during the opening half of the season and won eight races in total, does not think he could have done any more at Macau in his quest to become champion.
"It has been a fantastic season for me and the team," he said. "I have won eight races and claimed four pole positions, just like Yvan, scored points in all the races and lost the title to him by only a few points.
"In the first race I was pretty under pressure, with two safety car periods and Yvan right on my tail. But I was happy with the result because it was bringing the title fight to the last race.
"In the second race I have been pushing all the way. However I could not do more than winning... and this was not enough as Yvan scored the points he needed to be champion. Well done to him, but I'm very, very happy!"
Chevrolet team principal Ray Mallock praised the job done by both drivers who, along with Alain Menu, won 21 of the 24 races this year and topped qualifying at each of the 12 rounds.
"What a great battle we have seen," Mallock said. "Both Yvan and Rob proved to be worth of the world champion title, and I want also to congratulate them for being so gracious in victory and in defeat.
"I am really proud of how everybody in the team conducted this campaign and this finale."
