Fredy Barth takes Tiago Monteiro's seat at SUNRED
Fredy Barth will return to the World Touring Car Championship for the final two rounds of the season at Shanghai and Macau
The 32-year-old Swiss will drive the SUNRED Engineering SEAT Leon that was vacated by Honda-bound ex-Formula 1 driver Tiago Monteiro.
Barth was ruled out of last year's race in Macau after suffering smoke inhalation when his SUNRED car caught fire following a heavy practice accident.
"It was always our goal to return, with the focus being on a full entry in 2013," said Barth.
"The super-fast, sometimes extremely tight and difficult, street circuit in Macau is unique. I have a love-hate relationship with the place.
"I love it for the driving experiences I have had there, but I have yet to see the chequered flag in two years of racing in Macau."
SUNRED has also confirmed that it will run former GP2 racer Hiroki Yoshimoto at Suzuka next weekend, as it did last year. Yoshimoto is in with a chance of winning the GT300 class of Super GT with a round to go.
Yoshimoto will hand over the car to Macanese driver Andre Couto for the latter's home event, although the Leon does not yet have a driver for the Shanghai races.
