Gabriele Tarquini hopes for five Hondas on 2013 WTCC grid
Former World Touring Car champion Gabriele Tarquini hopes the ambition to put five Hondas on the grid for the 2013 series comes to fruition
Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro will drive the factory JAS examples, but the team has also hinted that as many as three of the new Civics will be supplied to customer teams.
"I think it will be good to have some extra cars to fight and score extra points for the manufacturers championship," Tarquini told AUTOSPORT.
"JAS has probably provided Honda with the maximum number of cars they can build, and I think five is quite a lot! But if they have given this number, it means JAS can build five cars, plus the test cars and spares - it is just a question of time.
In the last five or six years they've built a lot of cars for many categories, rallying and racing, so I don't think it will be a problem."
Monteiro and Tarquini have continued the Honda test programme this month, ahead of the Civic's race debut at the Suzuka round on 21 October this year.
While Tarquini will remain committed to his Lukoil SEAT contract to the end of 2012 before moving to JAS, Monteiro will make the switch from Tuenti SEAT early to give the Honda its debut in the final three rounds of this year's series.
