Teams to join FIA marketing seminar
The teams in the World Rally Championship have welcomed Max Mosley's invitation to a marketing seminar in Paris today - the first time the FIA president has made such a move
This is reckoned by some to be the week which will shape the immediate future of the WRC's sporting regulations and commercial structure.
Mosley's marketing address to all of the WRC stakeholders - the teams, the event organisers and the commercial rights holder International Sportsworld Communicators - will cover all aspects of the recent global promotion deal agreed between the FIA and ISC.
The contracts were signed by Mosley and ISC CEO Neil Duncanson in Monaco last week.
One leading figure in the sport said: "This is very encouraging. It's not something which has ever happened before, you don't tend to think of the FIA working on marketing strategies. It will be interesting to see the precise details of the new deal laid bare."
Beyond today's commercial debate, technical regulations will be discussed on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of March's World Motor Sport Council, when the new agreement for World Rally Cars is expected to be announced.
Current thinking is that the formula will remain with a Super 2000 car fitted with a specific kit of parts. This was agreed last year, but the debate was re-visited following further cost concerns on the price of developing and running the kit.
