Subaru Unveil 2006 Impreza

Subaru's 2006 World Rally Championship contender has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany

Subaru Unveil 2006 Impreza

The prototype car is based on the new for 2006 road-going Impreza designed to the new cost-conscious regulations for next year.

One of the most obvious additions is the new roof spoiler, which enhances airflow around the boot-mounted rear wing. This same spoiler is fitted to high performance versions of the Impreza road car and is one of a number of components that the team hope to homologate for competition use.

Like the current WRC machine, the car will be the result of a close collaboration between the Fuji Heavy Industries Advanced Design team in Japan and design teams at the SWRT headquarters in the UK.

The car will make its competitive debut in next year's Monte Carlo rally, the opening round of the 2006 season. Normally, Subaru would introduce their new car at later rounds, however the new regulations meant the car will be introduced at the start of the season.

A version of the car has already been tested by regular test driver Pasi Hagstrom on a gravel test in Sardinia.
