Subaru boss praises Solberg

Subaru's team boss David Lapworth has lauded the efforts of Petter Solberg after the Norwegian blitzed the field at the team's home rally - the inaugural Rally Japan - just two weeks after his high-speed accident on the Rallye Deutschland

Solberg finished the Japanese event a massive 1m13s ahead of his nearest challenger, Citroen's Sebastien Loeb, taking his third win of the season and elevating him to second in the drivers' championship, 30 points behind Loeb.

For Subaru team boss Lapworth it was a remarkable feat after Solberg's dismal run of form in the last three rallies.

"I've almost run out of superlatives," Lapworth admitted. "The way Petter has driven this rally and the way he's come back from, not only some big disappointments, but also a major accident has been just incredible. I can't think of many other drivers that would be able to react to a run of bad luck in such a positive way. If anyone needed proof of his ability to become a multiple world champion, then this weekend has been just that."

There are five rallies left to contest this year with the Wales Rally Great Britain next up on September 17-19.
