Storms won't disrupt Rally Finland
The Rally Finland organisers are working flat out to clear fallen trees from the Myhinpaa stage following overnight storms in the Jyvaskyla area
With much of central Finland without electricity following the storms, Rally Finland general manager Jarmo Mahonen admitted his team had been stretched, but he was adamant the event would be unaffected.
"I was on the telephone to the forestry guys at five this morning saying: 'Hey, guys, come on - we have to clear some trees!'" Mahonen said. "The big machines have been through and moved the trees out of the way. It was a big storm, a typhoon came and hit several hundred hectares around here."
The lack of electricity had threatened the participation of some of the private crews who rely on local petrol stations to fill their cars up.
"The petrol stations were without electricity, like many of the homes," added Mahonen, "but we have generators at the filling station, so we can keep the cars on the move.
"This has been another fantastic effort from the team here, something like this could have brought us to our knees, but have dealt with it."
