The Subaru star's lead over Carlos Sainz had shrunk to just a second after SS20, but a sensational fastest time on Bunnings North by Burns has increased the gap to 9.8s, a far more comfortable margin with just two stages left.
The battle for fifth place has also been affected by the 36kms stage, Harri Rovanpera leap-frogging both Marcus Gronholm and Thomas Radstrom to reclaim fifth.
Uwe Nittel hit trouble during the stage and has dropped to second in Group N, behind local man Ed Ordynski.
