SS4, Selladi Staktou: Solberg flies

After a stunning time on SS4 of the Cyprus Rally, Selladi Staktou, Subaru young gun Petter Solberg was left to rue what might have been without power steering problems in SS2

The Norwegian posted a time a staggering 21 seconds faster than Ford's Francois Delecour on the 19.29km test, with Carlos Sainz's Ford a further 1.2s further back. Had Solberg not lost nearly a minute in SS2, the Subaru driver would have been leading the event.

As it is, Marcus Gronholm's Peugeot still heads the overall timesheets, 8.2s ahead of Richard Burns' Subaru, with Colin McRae's Ford a further eight seconds back. Burns was fourth on SS4, with McRae fifth and Gronholm sixth.

Delecour makes it a Ford two-three-four, with Solberg tucking into fifth, ahead of another Ford - Carlos Sainz, who accelerated his climb up the leaderboard with the third best time.

The stage claimed world championship points-leader Tommi Makinen, who crashed out in his Mitsubishi just 1.6km from the start. The car stopped too far off the road for the Finn to be helped back on.
