SS20, Elatia-Rengini 2: McRae does enough

With Carlos Sainz down and out after just eight kilometres, Colin McRae strolled through the final competitive test of the Acropolis Rally, the 38.69-kilometre SS20 Elatia-Rengini 2, to win his third World Rally Championship event in a row

SS20, Elatia-Rengini 2: McRae does enough

In the end, Mcrae cruised to fifth fastest in his Ford Focus to win the Greek car-breaker by 49s from Subaru young gun Petter Solberg. Harri Rovanpera finished third overall for Peugeot, ahead of Tommi Makinen and Francois Delecour.

It was Makinen who set the fastest stage time, heading home walking wounded Delecour by 3.4s, with Solberg and Makinen's Mitsubishi team mate Freddy Loix third and fourth ahead of McRae.

The stage was a re-run of the longest test on the event. First tackled in the morning, the stage was less stone strewn, but still littered with large rocks pulled up by the cars themselves. But it wasn't the rocks that thwarted Sainz. Instead, it was low oil pressure that halted the Focus in its tracks.

McRae and Makinen head the points with 30 each, with Sainz failing to improve on his score of 26.
