SS2, Paleohori: Subaru young guns one-two
Petter Solberg leads the Acropolis Rally after just edging SS2 ahead of fellow Subaru protege Estonian Markko Martin
Less than half a second separated the two through the short 10.85km Paleohori stage, with the Norwegian Solberg heading to the next test with a slight advantage over reigning world champion Marcus Gronholm, in the Peugeot, who finished the stage in third.
Gilles Panizzi, more renowned as a tarmac specialist, was fourth quickest through the stage - his Grifone-run Peugeot 206 WRC just less than two seconds off the front runners' pace. Carlos Sainz lead Ford's charge through the second timed section of the day with the fifth fastest time, while his team mate Colin McRae, couldn't make in into the top 10, finishing a full eight seconds back from Solberg.
Subaru team leader Richard Burns finished behind his less experienced colleagues, posting the sixth fastest time through Paleohori, but lies third overall, two seconds back from Solberg.
Swede Thomas Radstrom was the quickest Citroen in seventh, with Toshihiro Arai making it four Subarus in the top 10 in eighth.
Mitsubishi's Freddy Loix and the Hyundai of Kenneth Eriksson round out the top 10 cars.
The drivers now head to service before heading out on the 23km Inohori 1 test.
