SS14, Asinou: Sainz fastest as Burns re-takes lead

Carlos Sainz maintained his run of stage wins by setting the fastest time on the last of Saturday's timed sections. Despite Richard Burns' Subaru being hampered with a damper problem on the final stage, he retook the lead of the rally from Colin McRae and will now be the first driver out on Sunday's stages when the rally reaches its conclusion

Toshiro Arai popped up to record the second quickest time through the re-run of Asinou, a 15.65km test, in his Subaru Impreza WRC. With World Champion Macrus Gronholm rounding out the top three.

Freddy Loix's Mitsubishi was fourth quickest, followed by the Subaru and Ford of Burns and McRae. The Subaru driver has a three-second advantage over McRae as the rally's second leg comes to a close.

Pasi Hagstroem in his Toyota Corolla just edged it from the Hyundai of Alister McRae for seventh, with the two works Skodas of Bruno Thiry and Armin Schwarz rounding out the top 10.

The teams now head to the final service of the day back at Lemesos before contemplating their final assault on the rally tomorrow.
