SS10, Asinou: Ford one-two-three
Carlos Sainz made it three stage wins out of four on Leg Two, as the Cyprus Rally heads to its first service of the day at Lemesos
The Spaniard is steadily making headway into the deficit between himself and the leaders and on SS10, the 15.65km Asinou test, was six seconds faster than team mate Colin McRae.
McRae, winner of the last round in Argentina, made inroads on Richard Burns' lead and now the gap between the two British stars of World Rally is down to just two seconds. Burns was 13 seconds off the leaders on SS10.
Francois Delecour rounded out a Ford one-two-three with a time 12 seconds slower than the impressive Sainz. Delecour now moves ahead of Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm in the overall standings - the enigmatic Frenchman taking a two-second advantage over the world champion.
Toshihiro Arai upstaged his illustrious Subaru team mate by nicking in with a stage time half a second quicker than Burns on SS10. The Japanese driver has moved ahead of Freddy Loix to seventh overall, with the Belgian losing another minute on the leaders. He will be mightily relieved to reach service where hopefully his team can fix his ailing Carisma.
