Sordo aims to repay Citroen's faith

Dani Sordo hopes to repay Citroen's faith in him by continuing the team's run of World Rally Championship titles

The reigning Junior WRC champion was announced as a factory Citroen driver for 2007 at the Paris Motor Show on Tuesday evening.

He had been widely tipped for a position with the returning works team after impressive performances in Kronos Racing's semi-works Citroens this season.

"I had dreamt of this moment and at last it has come," said Sordo.

"The first target, being an official Citroen driver, has been reached.

"Now I hope in time and with work I can achieve my other dream: become a world champion.

"I'm going to keep on working hard to pay Citroen back for the trust they have in me and I'll keep on doing what I like best: driving."

The 23-year-old Spaniard is currently third in the drivers' championship and was recently promoted to Kronos Citroen's second point-scoring drive.

Sordo originally only had the funding for a partial WRC campaign this year, and was expected to return to the Junior category when his money ran out.

But he proved faster than Citroen's original number two Xavier Pons and scored a series of podium finishes, earning a full-time drive in the process.
