Solberg sets sights on WRC title

Rally Great Britain winner Petter Solberg says he hopes to build on his first WRC victory and fight for the world championship crown next year, according a story in this week's AUTOSPORT

Solberg and co-driver Phil Mills broke their world championship duck last weekend, charging clear of Ford Markko Martin on the final leg after leader Marcus Gronholm crashed out. Now the Norwegian - the first driver from his country to win a WRC round - believes his 2003 Subaru Impreza will be quick enough to allow him to challenge the Peugeot 206 drivers.

"I think we deserved to get second in the championship," he told AUTOSPORT, "Because we've been the nearest challenger to Peugeot on so many rallies. But next year we want to beat them more often. I think it should be possible for me to fight for the title.

"I'll have to work hard with David [Lapworth, Subaru team boss] to make sure the car is quick enough to give us a chance."
