Solberg Rues Tyre Choice
Petter Solberg believes he could have challenged Sebastien Loeb better on the final stages of the first leg of the Rally GB if he had chosen to run with softer tyres
Loeb pulled out ten seconds over Solberg on the second loop of stages, however he gained it back straight away when the Citroen driver was awarded a time penalty for a checking in too late to TC3.
The gap between the two is down to 9.9 seconds, which Solberg reckons could have been lower with different tyres.
"On SS5 and SS6 I chose too hard a tyre and it didn't work at all at the end," Solberg said. "but Loeb gave me a chance by getting a ten second penalty. Everything helps.
"Marcus Gronholm is coming very strongly but he has been quicker than me on a few stages, especially four and five. I had a very hard tyre and it was very difficult.
"If I get the right tyre choice tomorrow then I have a good chance of challenging Loeb. I will take risks to try and gain some time back."
