Solberg realistic despite win

Subaru's Petter Solberg admits there is only a tiny possibility that he could steal the 2004 WRC title from Citroen's Sebastien Loeb despite taking a dominant win in this weekend's Supermag Rally Italia Sardinia, his fifth win of the season and his third consecutive victory.

Following his win on Sunday, the Norwegian now lies 26 points behind Loeb, but there are just 30 points left to play for and Solberg admits that his chances of defending his title are pretty slim, particularly as two of the remaining three rallies are on asphalt, a surface which favours Citroen's Loeb.

"There is a very, very small theory that we can still do it," he said. "But we have to be realistic. The whole team is realistic. It will be difficult on asphalt, but on gravel we're very quick."

Solberg also admitted that following his disappointing mid-season - his retirements in Turkey and Argentina and his huge smash in Germany - the team has had a mini revival and is now working at a higher level than before.

"After the crash in Germany, I think everyone in the team has been working a step higher," he said, "and it's been working very well on gravel. I've won the last three rallies and it's just been a very good feeling."
