Rally Sweden: Mads Ostberg not willing to settle for third
Qatar M-Sport driver Mads Ostberg says he will launch an all-out attack on the two Frenchmen ahead of him when Rally Sweden moves into his native Norway for its final day on Sunday
Following a tough start to the event, Ostberg eased his way past Jari-Matti Latvala and onto the provisional podium on Saturday afternoon, but he wants even more ahead of his home fans.
Ostberg trails leader Sebastien Ogier by 57.7 seconds and second-placed Sebastien Loeb by 30.8s.
"It's always special going to the home stages," said Ostberg, "but I don't think it's going to give me a second per kilometre or anything like that.
"Psychologically it is a lift, but the bigger thing is that I'm going to be driving stages which I know quite well. I have driven on them before and I have good experience.
"The gap to Loeb is quite big - he has found some extra speed this afternoon - but I won't give up. I will keep pushing."
After passing Latvala's VW on Fredriksberg, Ostberg then furthered his advantage over the Finn on the next two stages.
Having run in a podium position for the whole event up until SS14, Latvala was downcast.
"It's been frustrating," he said. "I need to focus on my driving tomorrow."
Rally Sweden's final day starts with the Mitandersfors stage, which actually crosses the border mid-stage, and then two runs at the fully Norwegian Finnskogen and
Kirkener tests.
The power stage runs at Torsby, back in Sweden.
