Sebastien Ogier denied Robert Kubica a chance to lead his home World Rally Championship round by pipping the ex-Formula 1 star on Rally Poland's opening superspecial

Rally Poland: Sebastien Ogier beats Robert Kubica on opening stage

Kubica looked on course to upstage the Volkswagens in his RK Ford on the Mikolajki Arena stage until Ogier's run.

The world champion was half a second quicker than Kubica to end the evening in first place.

Andreas Mikkelsen completed the top three in another VW.

Martin Prokop, like Kubica using the Pirelli tyre that performs well in the cooler evening conditions, managed to beat the third VW of Jari-Matti Latvala to fifth.

Ott Tanak was the top M-Sport Ford driver in sixth.

WRC2 stars Stephane Lefebvre and Pontus Tidemand put their Citroen and Skoda respectively in the outright top 10 in seventh and eighth, ahead of the Hyundai World Rally Cars of Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo.

None of the WRC Citroens made it into the top 10. Mads Ostberg was only 11th quickest, with Kris Meeke stalling on the line in his repaired DS 3 and ending up 17th, albeit only 4.1s off the pace.
