Rally Mexico: Sebastien Ogier's lead increased by gate compensation
Sebastien Ogier's Rally Mexico lead increased to three and a half minutes before Sunday's action started as he was given time back by the rally organisers to compensate for Saturday's gate incident
The Volkswagen driver had to come to a halt on the Otates stage to open a gate that had been closed in his path after the other cars had come through.
Despite this, Ogier still ended leg two nearly three minutes clear of the field.
The officials used GPS tracking and split times to ascertain that the incident had cost Ogier 40 seconds, which was duly restored.
That leaves him 3m29.7s clear of second-placed Mikko Hirvonen starting the final day.
VW team boss Jost Capito said he was happy for his driver to keep pushing to the finish even with such a commanding cushion.
"Sebastien Ogier has been in a league of his own here in Mexico, and produced another fantastic performance," said Capito.
"He found a perfect rhythm and we will not attempt to rein him in, but will let him continue at his own speed."
