Peugeot Boss Still Hopeful of Title

Peugeot boss Jean Pierre Nicolas still reckons they can win the World Rally Manufacturers' Championship, despite Citroen dominating the Rally Deutschland

Citroen moved into the lead of the title race by six points after Sebastien Loeb and Francois Duval finished the event in first and second position. Peugeot drivers Marcus Gronholm and Markko Martin finished a distant third and fourth.

But with five rounds to go, Nicolas reckons his team still have a good chance of taking the overall title.

"Our objective was achieved on these very dry roads," Nicolas said. "We knew that it would be difficult to fight on equal terms with Citroen, so the most sensible course of action was to concentrate on securing third and fourth places.

"Our drivers had no mechanical problems throughout the rally. We are now six points behind the Championship, but Marcus and Markko will approach the next round of the Championship, Rally Great Britain, with a mindset that will allow them to fight for the win."
