Ogier set to use slowing tactics

Rally of Portugal leader Sebastien Ogier will drop time at the end of the Felizes test to find a better position on the road for the second day of the Faro-based event

The Frenchman, who won this event last season, admitted he had no intention of running first on the road through what is expected to be a tough day tomorrow.

Asked where he wanted to be on the road on Saturday, the two-time world rally winner said: "You know the answer to that question! This is a gravel rally and being at the front is not good for tomorrow, I don't want to be there. I would rather be further back, I don't know where, maybe sixth or seventh is too far with the time gap. We will see what happens."

Ogier has led the event throughout the afternoon, but he will relinquish that lead on the final stage of the loop. Running sixth on the road today, the last of the lead contenders for this third round of the WRC, Ogier holds all the aces and can take his pick of where he starts tomorrow.

Ford's Mikko Hirvonen is first on the road and admits he is going to suffer the most.

"What can I do?" he said. "It's not good, because tomorrow it does look like there's more loose gravel around."
