No action over Citroen orders

The Citroen team will not face any sanctions by the sport's governing body, the FIA, over its use of team orders in Wales Rally GB that compromised Sebastien Loeb's chances of winning the WRC title

Loeb was told to ensure that he finished, so Citroen was guaranteed to win the manufacturers' title, rather than allowed to push to catch Subaru's Petter Solberg so he could win the drivers' championship. FIA president Max Mosley did say, however, that it detracted from the spectacle of the WRC finale.

"It's not good for the sport and it's something taken away from the rally," said Mosley. "But Citroen are here to win the manufacturers' title. When one car maker is out to beat another there can be no objections.

"It is not ideal but there are two competitions going on. They can win one, but not the other, so it's entirely their decision. Even if we didn't like it we couldn't do anything about it, but it has taken something away from the rally. It has made it into an anti-climax."

Mosley said that the situation did not compare with any scenario that would be penalised in Formula 1.

"There is no analogy with F1," he said. "All they told Loeb is to make jolly sure nothing happened to him. They want to make sure he finished. That's not quite the same as one or two things we have seen in F1."
