New Rally Oz superspecial revealed
Rally Australia organisers have announced that horse-racing venue Gloucester Park will replace the scrapped Langley Park superspecial stage for this year's Perth-based event. Three stages of the September 4-7 rally will be held there
The reason for the switch is the earlier date of the rally this year. Langley Park is situated on a silt bed and would not be a suitable venue so soon after the winter rains that normally fall in Perth. Rally Australia was previously run in late October or November.
The new venue at Gloucester Park will be transformed in less than a month, as work began on the 7th of August. Over 4,000 cubic metres of sand and crushed rock base are being trucked in. The track will cover around 13,600 square metres.
In addition to the three evening superspecials, there will also be a Qantas flyover, rally show for fans, fireworks and support racing including a celebrity challenge. Hopes are high that the fans will adopt Gloucester Park as willingly as they did Langley Park.
