New Impreza to get Acropolis debut
The Subaru World Rally Team will give their much-vaunted new Impreza WRC2008 an earlier-than-planned debut on the Acropolis Rally, from May 29 - June 1, and will unveil the car at an official event in Greece on the Wednesday prior to the event
Subaru had planned to introduce the car late in this year's World Rally Championship, but the team hope that by running it as early as round seven will give Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson the chance to be competitive with the hatchback before the end of the season.
"We are very excited to be able to launch the all-new Impreza WRC2008 ahead of schedule," said David Richards, Subaru World Rally Team principal. "It is testament to the dedication and commitment of the team behind the scenes in the UK and at STi in Japan.
"Just as the latest Impreza road car represents a new era for Subaru so the WRC2008 represents a new era for all of us at the Subaru World Rally Team and I am confident that we will arrive in Greece able to fight competitively."
The new car is based on the latest road-going Impreza, introduced in June 2007.
And while it looks completely different to its predecessor, the Impreza WRC2008 retains a horizontally-opposed turbocharged engine, combined with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
The WRC2008 also features a brand new livery created to align it more closely with Subaru's corporate identity, and though the car remains blue, the gold has been replaced by silver and white.
