McRae prays for more rain
Colin McRae is hoping that the weather will take a turn for the worse on the Rally Australia to give him a chance of keeping in touch with leaders Marcus Gronholm and Richard Burns
Light rain is falling on the second leg of the Perth-based event and McRae is hoping it will fall harder. With team mate Francois Delecour's retirement on Wellington Dam, the Scot is back to running first on the road, a disadvantage on the rally's loose gravel stages.
"The damp will help, but it doesn't look like it is raining enough," said McRae. "It will only help us stay ahead of the people behind, not to take time out of Marcus and Richard."
Meanwhile, McRae's co-driver Nicky Grist has described Delecour's accident that ended the Frenchman's rally. His Focus hit a tree, injuring co-driver Daniel Grataloup.
"It was quite a nasty fifth gear corner," said Grist. "The car actually snapped the tree off at its base. In a way they were actually quite lucky the tree did break."
