Loeb Equals Auriol's Record

Sebastien Loeb credited his Citroen team for equalling Didier Auriol's record of five consecutive victories, after the Frenchman won this weekend's Acropolis Rally

Countryman Auriol's five rallying winning streak came in 1992, and also included the Acropolis Rally.

The win means that Loeb has taken six victories from eight rallies so far this season and he holds a commanding 23-point Championship lead over Petter Solberg.

"I've won five rallies one after the other because the team is very strong," Loeb said. "We make a strong car and then from earlier in the season we have the new tyres. It's a bit from all this that means we can win like this.

"For sure, it's very nice to have the record. We just equal Didier Auriol, but for me it's not the most important - the points are the most important. The third place for Carlos is a fantastic result for Citroen. After that the record is more exciting, but it's not the most important thing.

"Acropolis is never easy, something can happen until the end. The stages are really difficult. There are stones and it's twisty and tricky in places. You really have to keep concentration for all the rally. Okay for me it was a good fight on day one, then we had the lead after Marcus had a problem. After that it was another race, but still not so easy. I know it's easy to break something here."
