Latvala to work on asphalt form

Sebastien Loeb has won the event every year since 2005, with Dani Sordo finishing second for the last three years, and Ford has targeted it as a vital opportunity to take points away from Citroen.

Latvala is eager to make amends for his mistakes earlier this season and help Mikko Hirvonen break Citroen's stronghold on the Catalunya Rally.

"I'm going to a circuit in Finland where I will be driving a road car again, learning more about how to drive on asphalt," said Latvala. "I will be driving for another two days with a race car driver who has helped me before.

"We don't actually drive a rally car - you don't need to for this stuff. I drive a four-wheel-drive sports car and work on braking and braking in corners, this is where I have been losing it.

"Beating Dani in Catalunya is tough, very tough. But if I can at least give him some pressure, that would be very good for me and for the team."

Latvala crashed out on this year's only other all-asphalt event, Rally Ireland, but he has been pleased with his form on asphalt in the past.

"Last year on the Tour of Corsica I was fairly happy with the speed," he said. "In Catalunya I was sixth, but had no test before the rally. I believe I can improve again before the start of the rally in Spain."
