La Cumbre Service 2: Surfaces cause concern

Colin McRae (Ford), leader: "The last stage (SS6) was quite rocky. People in front have been taking rocks out, so I've been taking it a little easy."

Burns lost power steering on SS5, then lost his rear brakes on SS6. Despite this, he's managed to set the second fastest time on SS5, then the fastest time on the following stage!

"On the ultimate corner on SS6 a spectator was standing on the inside of the corner and I couldn't choose the ideal line. I went wide and hit a bank in sixth gear. It was quite a big moment."

"Colin is already too far ahead..."

Rovanpera is still suffering from gear problems and his crew has yet to find out the exact cause. On SS6 the Finn hit a big pot hole on a straight stretch of road and damaged the steering rack on his 206.


"There is noise coming from the left rear of the car and it is soft in the corner. We are sweeping the roads clean and it's a disadvantage to be at the front."

Gronholm has had the turbo changed in his Peugeot, but the World Champion is another who thinks Colin McRae is already too far in front to be caught.

Solberg chose a tyre compound that was too soft for SS5 and SS6. The Norwegian also spun on SS6.

The engine in McRae's Hyundai Accent is cutting out intermittently and there may be problem with the master switch.

After earlier gremlins, a sensor was changed in Eriksson's engine and he's matching his team mate's stage times now.

Near the end of SS6, Thiry got it slightly wrong going over a jump and nearly landed off the road. He damaged the left front wheel in the process.
