Jordan warns WRC to learn from F1
Formula 1 team boss Eddie Jordan has warned that rallying should take care that it does not follow the same road as Formula 1 in the wake of Peugeot's dominance this season
The Irishman was an interested visitor to last weekend's Sanremo Rally and was impressed with what he saw.
But he also said that Peugeot's strength in the World Rally Championship could have the same negative effect on popularity as Ferrari's vice-like grip on F1, which has suffered a drop in TV viewing figures.
"Formula 1 is going through a difficult period right now, with the dominance of Ferrari," Jordan told this week's Motorsport News. "It starting to look like that with Peugeot.
"I think rallying has to careful. I'm not saying that as something against Peugeot, they have done a very good job - but the sport doesn't want to go down the same route as F1."
Jordan was persuaded to take in a WRC round by British American Racing boss David Richards.
"I sit next to David at most of the F1 meetings," he said. "He kept telling me I should come and have a look at a WRC round, and this was the one I could fit in. It's great. The level of grip these cars have is phenomenal."
