Gronholm to enter Rally Sweden
Marcus Gronholm has confirmed he will tackle next year's Rally Sweden in a Ford Focus RS WRC - and says he will be gunning for another victory on the Karlstad-based event
The Finn, who retired at the end of the 2007 season, will drive in Team Therminator, alongside countryman Matthias Therman. Gronholm will be co-driven, as usual, by Timo Rautiainen.
"Sweden has always been one of my favorite rallies," said Gronholm. "During my retirement time, I've had thoughts that one more time I would like to drive in legendary stage of Sagen. As now the opportunity took place I'm very thrilled about it!"
"My goal is to be fighting for the victory. However we all must remember that nowadays I don't have same routine as the leading drivers have, but maybe in tests I'll find the touch again."
Gronholm, who won Rally Sweden five times, met Therman while on holiday skiing and said the two began planning the double world champion's first WRC outing since he retired a Subaru Impreza WRC from Portugal in April.
"I had a chat with Therman about the idea [of the team] and he was very exited about it," said Gronholm. "In a short period we were able to collect together a good team."
Finnish privateer Therman finished 18th overall on Rally GB in October.
