Frequelin wants Citroen to progress

Outgoing Citroen Sport boss Guy Frequelin says that he will only be satisfied with his time at the team if they continue to succeed without him

The 62-year-old has retired from his role now that the 2007 WRC season has finished, and he left the team as Sebastien Loeb secured a fourth consecutive world title.

However, Frequelin will be keeping a close eye on Citroen now that he has left the squad.

"I will consider that I have fulfilled my mission when I see Citroen and its drivers continuing to win the world championship after my departure," he said.

"I am delighted for everyone who forms part of the Citroen family that we have succeeded in achieving this difficult result to round of the year."

Frequelin also paid tribute to the team's ability to win the title this year with a new car, on their return to the championship as a full works outfit after effectively having a year out of the sport in 2006.

"Returning to the competitive arena after a year away to win the title with the brand new Citroen C4 WRC is extremely satisfying," he added.

"This title fills me with immense joy. It's a fitting reward not only for the talent of Sebastien and Daniel (Elena) but also for the amazing motivation that spurred everyone on at Citroen Sport."

Loeb added that it was important to him to win the title at Frequelin's last event with the team.

"I am glad to have clinched the title on Guy's last rally as the boss of Citroen Sport," said the four-time world champion.

"The excellent work put in by everyone at Citroen Sport kept us in the chase and it's really great to have pulled it off."
